A helpful reminder ... of things to concentrate on when about to take your practical driving test

CLEARANCE

When approaching to pass parked vehicles always remember that they are actually creating blind spots. This is why you need to leave enough clearance.

You should always be anticipating the possibilities of what the parked vehicle could do. This means considering what the vehicle could be obstructing, planning what you’ll do if something unexpected happens, and ensuring you have enough clearance that you won’t be affected.

Expect the vehicle to move off, a door to open or for another road user to emerge from the other side of the vehicle. This could be a vehicle reversing out of a driveway, a pedestrian or even a cyclist. Check your mirrors and be aware of any following traffic and drive past parked vehicles at a speed that you could pull up and stop safely in the event of an incident occurring.
