A helpful reminder ... of things to concentrate on when about to take your practical driving test

TURN IN THE ROAD

When asked to carry out the Turn in the road (commonly referred to as the 3-point turn), remember that it doesn’t have to necessarily be carried out in 3 moves. Even if the road is a little narrow, there’s no need to worry, it may take you 5 moves to complete the turn – which will be perfectly acceptable as long as you keep your car under control and carry out plenty of all round observation at all times.

Keep looking out for passing traffic and STOP if anyone is about to go past you.

If anyone comes along whilst you are in the middle of the manoeuvre, just do the opposite of what they do. Keep an eye on the other vehicle, and if they stop, you should carry on with the manoeuvre; but if they carry on, then you should stop.

Use POMPOM:

P – Prepare – get your car into gear, clutch up to the bite point, hand on handbrake ready to release

O – Observe – Is it safe to move off? Have a look around and check if there is anyone there or has all the traffic stopped – with no pedestrians walking past behind or in front of you?

M – Move – Move off slowly and under control

Remember to also look out of the BACK window whilst reversing and NOT just through the rear view centre mirror.
