A helpful reminder ... of things to concentrate on when about to take your practical driving test

NEUTRAL

Never put the gear lever in neutral when driving along as you are now compromising the efficiency of your footbrake and thus your ability to stop in time.

Equally if you change to a lower gear and leave the clutch pedal down on the floor you are driving in the equivalent of being in neutral, with the result that the footbrake is working less efficiently as it could have been. Thus you will be compromising the safety of yourself and your passengers as well as other road users.
