A helpful reminder ... of things to concentrate on when about to take your practical driving test

WHEN TO MOVE OFF

Do you know when to move off safely when driving? Whilst waiting at a road junction or roundabout be very PATIENT and wait for a SAFE gap or you could be that PATIENT being loaded into the back of an ambulance saying “If only I waited for one or two more cars to pass before I moved out”.

Whatever you do DON’T put a time limit on how long that you are needing to wait. If you wait for a while and then pull out in front of someone and cause them to take avoiding action – such as braking or swerving – because you moved out, well you could have done that when you first arrived so what were you waiting for?

The answer is: A SAFE gap in the traffic where you would have no effect on other road users and would not be relying on them to take any evasive actions. It’s always better to give yourself extra time for your journeys so you don’t feel tempted to take unnecessary risks while assessing when to move off.
