QUEUEING TRAFFIC – ROAD POSITION
When joining a queue of slow or stationary traffic, don’t necessarily line up with the vehicle in front of you. They may be intending to go in a completely different direction, or just lousy at lane positioning.
In a queue of say 20 cars, there will be Leaders and Followers/Sheep. About 3 or 4 will be Leaders, the others behind them will line up like sheep. Perhaps it’s the British thing we have about queuing. Which do you want to be, a Leader or a Sheep? Decide where you should be positioned in the road and put your car in that position. This is the act of a leader.
When you are in very slow crawling stop/start traffic you can take the Mickey out of the driver behind you by moving your car very slightly to the right, and you will notice them follow your position, then you move your car slightly to the left, and they will change their position again to follow you. Likewise, the driver in front of you may well be taking the Mickey out of you by moving their car very slightly to the left or right for their own amusement.
