DRIVING TEST, NEW TEST CHANGES
From June 2017 the driving test will get a major update from what is required in the current driving test.
To begin with the Turn-in-the-Road (commonly referred to as the 3-point turn) is to be dropped along with the Reverse into a Side Road.
Instead will there will be two new manoeuvres:
First New Manoeuvre: You will be asked to drive forward into a Parking Bay keeping all 4 wheels between the lines, and then you will be required to reverse out again and reversing back for 2 car lengths. You will be required to do this in a Supermarket or Retail car park with other traffic around.
Second New Manoeuvre: You will be asked to park up behind another vehicle on the right-hand side of the road. Then you will be asked to reverse back 2 car lengths and then drive off again.
The Parallel Park and the Bay Park ÔÇô reversing into a parking bay will also be kept.
As it is currently you will still only be asked to perform just one of these manoeuvres on your practical driving test.
Third New Element: The examiner will bring a pre-loaded Satellite Navigation unit and you will be required to follow a pre-loaded route for up to 20 minutes. Don’t worry if you miss a turning as the Sat-Nav will re-direct you back onto the route ÔÇô just as in real life.
Fourth New Element: You will be asked to demonstrate the ‘Show Me’ questions whilst driving. For example you may be asked to switch on the Heated Rear Window, Set up the controls to keep the front windows from misting up, Switch on the windscreen wipers or operate the windscreen washers.
